The Informatica Documentation team documents all Informatica products, from PowerCenter to CEP. The doc team also manages the Informatica How-To Library, where customers can download articles that dig deeper into features and products. We work closely with Dev, QA and support teams to develop product documents and enhance customer experience. We contribute to the GCS Knowledge Base as well. We are a dynamic global team spread across geographies to serve our customers internally as well as externally.

Complex Event Processing (CEP) fundamentally changes how organizations, enterprises, and government agencies process their data – detecting meaningful patterns from tremendous amounts of real-time data – and enables them to be proactive in finding opportunities and preventing threats. The CEP team is responsible for delivering the complete CEP product – frontend GUI, backend Engine/Services, communication framework, and administration framework – and various solutions built using the core product. The team comprises of diverse, experienced, competent technologists who believe in building a fun, challenging, customer centric and high performance work culture.

Your Opportunity

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with strong record of achievement to join the ILabs doc team as a Principal Technical Writer for documenting the Complex Event Processing (CEP) Solution. CEP enables ordinary business users to use patented technology to detect and respond to meaningful patterns within tremendous amounts of real-time data. The product builds on diverse technologies in the thin client, distributed computing, high end messaging systems space and provides a great opportunity for contributing, learning and growing.

As a Principal writer, you are expected to play a major role in the planning and development of the product documentation. You should own the overall product documentation and ensure that the quality, technical accuracy and customer focus are maintained in the deliverables.

You will be working in a fast-paced environment alongside energetic software developers, QA engineers and support engineers.

Your Responsibilities

• Understand product architecture and document Informatica’s CEP products using conceptual, task-based, and reference formats.
• Plan documentation effectively by developing doc plans from agile stories, maintain schedules and share documentation status with stakeholders.
• Install product builds and test functionality against the documentation for improving the usability and technical quality of docs.
• Develop API documents.
• Ensure cross-team coordination by working with development, QA and support staff as needed.
• Edit documentation for completeness, style, and accuracy to ensure that it reflects Informatica’s commitment to quality.
• Document How-To articles (H2L) which help customers solve specific feature/task related questions of customers.
• Mentor Junior writers to improve their writing skills.
• Contribute to process improvements for enhancing efficiency.

Your Qualifications

• Educational background in Computer Science/Engineering (desirable)
• 10 or more years of writing experience in Java based software application development.
• Knowledge and experience with structured writing techniques.
• Experience in writing or reviewing source code in C, C++, Java or .NET is an advantage.
• Basic programming skills and experience in documenting programming languages, application programming interfaces (APIs), protocols, schemas, and/or application development environments.
• Experience documenting systems software, relational databases and SQL, client APIs in Java, C++ and development environments on UNIX and Windows platforms (desirable).
• Ability to meet deadlines and help others meet them.
• Ability to prioritize and follow schedules.
• Develop and fine-tune documentation processes.
• Understands customer requirements and incorporate the same in documentation.

Candidate should also possess knowledge of the following.

• Unix/Linux operating systems
• Microsoft Windows operating system
• Experience with content management systems
• Knowledge of XMetal, DITA specializations, style sheets, XSLT transformations
• Working in Agile development cycles
• Experience working with a translation team to produce PDFs and online help in multiple languages
